A tram on rails for visitors attending the 2022 Winter Olympic Games at Taizicheng Resort — located in the Chongli district of Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei province — is expected to make its debut in the next two months and start running regularly in December, according to the resort.

Chongli, which is about 200 kilometers northwest of Beijing, will host most of the skiing events during the upcoming Games. Taizicheng Resort is in the central part of the district's competition area.

The resort is situated near Taizicheng Railway Station, from which high-speed trains can send passengers to the capital in about 50 minutes. Connecting trams will cover some Olympic supporting facilities including the awards plaza, shopping streets, an international exhibition center and hotels.

The 1.6-km tram line is designed for short trips between the resort's major elements. It passes and stops at key spots within the resort, including a heritage park. Along the rail are six stations for the first-stage project. More stations are envisioned for the future.

Three trams will be put into trial operation in December. Each is 27 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, with 48 passenger seats and devices to hold skiing equipment. The trams are designed to travel up to 70 kilometers per hour, with each holding 150 passengers, the resort said.
